Our rental house on Spofford Lake looks directly at this state park in Spofford Lake. Pierce Island State Park is a 5 acre island 1/4 mile from the state boat landing on South Shore Rd.. This park is popular because folks drive their boats or bring their kyaks or canoes right to the shore. Although it is densely wooded, there are nice walking trails. A few years ago artifacts over 10,000 years old were found in the ground on the island, so its been a popular destination forever. Keep in mind that Spofford Lake is a Class A lake with excellent water clarity. All our guests love the lake, which is about 740 acres in size with an average depth of 30 feet and maximum depth of 60 feet. It is spring fed. And for some interesting history, some of comedian George Carlin’s ashes were spread in the lake— he had a long history with the lake since his days at Camp Notre Dame as a youth.
